For Zinfully Good Holiday Feasts, Turn to Renwood Winery
October 29, 2012
Come autumn, wine lovers begin pondering that perennially vexing question: Which wines to serve with holiday dinners? Some feel obliged to pair a different wine with each course, a challenging tactic given how many varying tastes are on – and at – the table. Renwood Winery, in Amador County, has a simpler solution: All Zinfandel, All the Time!
"Zinfandel is the perfect holiday wine because it has the body, depth of flavor and zestiness to stand up to the rich textures and flavors one encounters at the holiday table," says Renwood's longtime winemaker, Dave Crippen. "Turkey, ham, goose, roast beef, mashed potatoes with gravy . . . you name it, Zinfandel is a worthy companion."

Renwood Winery is 'Destination Zin'
Sierra Heritage Magazine, August 2012
Zinfandel is California's signature grape variety, and nowhere is it more prized than in the Sierra Foothills' Amador County. Each of Amador's 40-plus wineries produces at least one Zinfandel, but at Renwood Winery in Amador's Shenandoah Valley, Zinfandel truly is king.
Established in 1993, Renwood has long been renowned for its intense old-vine Zins, but today – under new ownership – it is redoubling its efforts to become "Destination Zin."
The winery now produces a dozen different Zinfandels, including several single-vineyard wines named after particular species of wren (the small songbird from which the winery's name is derived). Visitors to Renwood's newly renovated tasting room on Steiner Road, near the small town of Plymouth, can taste comparative "flights" of Renwood Zinfandels while enjoying gourmet salads, sandwiches and other treats, including artisan olive oils, honeys and cheeses.
The beautiful new tasting room features several outdoor tasting areas complete with fire pits; a large room, with fireplace, for private tastings; and a handsome new tasting bar. Comfortable couches, leather club chairs and low wooden tables give the space the feel of a chic, yet casual resort club lounge, with a hostess and concierge on hand to attend to guests' every need.
Renwood's all-out commitment to producing the finest Zinfandels possible is reflected in the bevy of awards its current vintages have garnered. At leading 2012 wine competitions, Renwood has earned 18 Gold medals, four Double-Gold medals and three Best of Class awards. Suffice to say, this Zin-fully good Gold Country winery is definitely taking flight.
