2007 Wine Club Exclusive Primitivo |
||||||
As many of you know, Primitivo is the sister grape of Zinfandel. We planted this grape about 10 years ago before controversy surrounding it had been resolved. It has been proved that Primitivo came after Zinfandel. We know it was brought to Italy from California by a disgruntled gold miner about 80 years ago. Our founder planted this grape to learn the differences between Zinfandel and Primitivo. On the visual side, the leaf shape and cluster are dramatically smaller than Zinfandel. The grape has a marvelous succulent jammy texture, but none of the spice characteristics of classic Amador Zinfandels. There is no confusion in our minds after growing this grape for 10 years. What we have produced is a delightful well balanced quality wine in the classic Italian tradition of "drink me now". Primitivo is perfect with any Italian cooking and is just a great sipping wine. This bottle should be consumed in the next 2 to 3 years. It is a classic South Italian style wine.
